Calgary Stampede hosts Canada’s largest 4-H event
May 25, 2010
Calgary - The Calgary Stampede is proud to once again host 4-H on Parade, Canada’s largest 4-H event. 4-H on Parade is the culmination of a year’s worth of time and effort put into a variety of projects by Calgary area youth. More than 500 4-H members will participate in this year’s event representing more than 40 clubs.
“I just love going to 4-H on Parade,” says Chelsea Drake, a member of the Irricana Beef & Multi Club. “4-H and 4-H on Parade embody important life skills that we will face like competition, hard work, sportsmanship, friendship and most importantly, how to have fun!"
This year’s event will also welcome a very important 4-H ambassador. Canadian country music star and former 4-H’er Gord Bamford will be on hand to motivate the competitors. Proceeds from Bamford’s most recent releases, Day Job and Honkytonks & Heartaches are going back into 4-H. “The 4-H partnership is new and innovative,” says Bamford. “As a former member I have seen the benefits that 4-H offers young people. This is a win-win partnership for everyone involved. 4-H on Parade is a great example of the 4-H spirit as it showcases everyone's hard work and dedication. It's a great honor to be included in the festivities."
Events begin Friday, May 28 at 10 a.m. with the beef female show and continue through the weekend with other cattle shows (beef & dairy), sheep shows, k9 events, equine shows (light & heavy horse), life skills demonstrations (art and photo competitions and others) and end with a live auction of sheep and beef projects on Sunday.
