2009 Equine Canada Breeds & Industry Division Delegate Assembly

Ottawa, ON --- In conjunction with Equine Canada’s Annual Convention, the Breeds & Industry Division 2009 Delegate Assembly will be held Saturday, February 7, 8:00 a.m.–5:15 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ottawa, ON. The 2009 Convention will also play host to the Equine Canada National Awards Gala, taking place Saturday evening. Equine Canada’s AGM will be held Sunday morning.
The Breeds & Industry Division Delegate Assembly is an open meeting for everyone to discuss issues affecting the entire equine industry and includes Breeds & Industry Council elections. Break-out sessions will add to the line-up of speakers presenting a multitude of topics. Discussions include:
• Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM)
• National Farmed Animal Health Strategy
• Codes of Practice for Horses
• Export Market Development
• Equine Identification
• Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
This is also a call for Nominations for Council. There are 4 positions to be elected to the Breeds & Industry Council. Any member of an associated member organization may serve on Council, however each member organization may only have one representative on Council. Please send names of interested members to Dean Leifso, dleifso@bmts.com and Sarah Bradley Sarah@unicornstables.com, the Breeds & Industry Nominating Committee, for presentation at the Delegates Assembly.

About the 2009 Equine Canada Annual Convention
The 2009 Equine Canada Annual Convention is set for February 1–9, 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ottawa, ON. For nine days in February, the equine community from across Canada will be able to participate in a selection of clinics, seminars and forums tailored to the unique issues affecting each of Equine Canada’s three divisions—Sport, Recreation and Breeds & Industry.

The 2009 Convention will also play host to the Equine Canada National Awards Gala, taking place Saturday evening, February 7. Equine Canada's most prestigious awards—Equestrian of the Year, Junior Equestrian of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Media Award and the NEW Equine Canada/Just Add Horses Environment Award—will be presented during the gala dinner. IMPORTANT NOTICE
As many of you have heard, Ottawa is currently struggling with an ongoing public transportation strike. As a result parking in downtown Ottawa is extremely limited during the workweek.
In an effort to investigate the feasibility of arranging parking or shuttle options to assist convention attendees driving to the Equine Canada Convention, Equine Canada is requesting that those who plan to attend, but have not yet registered, to please do so at their earliest convenience. Please indicate “DRIVING” on your registration sheet.
