August 4, 2008
Saugerties, NY --- Approximately 175 guests from Smith Barney packed the VIP Pavilion at HITS Saugerties for Sunday's $50,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Smith Barney and they got a chance to see show jumping at its finest, with former Olympian Margie Engle and her mount Hidden Creek's Coroya Z winning the class.
Aside from an exciting seven-horse jump off, the VIP crowd was treated to a fabulous buffet lunch, a course walk with Irish Grand Prix rider Darragh Kerins and tours of the facility that included the barn of Grand Prix rider Candice King.
"It was a homerun for Smith Barney," said HITS' Senior Vice President Tony Hitchcock. "It was a glorious day weather-wise, one of the best riders in the world won the Grand Prix and some of the guests even got to look at the course up close and personal with Darragh Kerins."
"It was a great day to jump," added Engle. "Smith Barney had a great crowd in the VIP Pavilion and it's always nice to compete in front of an enthusiastic crowd."
Show jumping at HITS Saugerties continues next week with the USEF Junior Hunter National Championship for the East Coast on August 5 and 6, while the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby and all-new $5,000 Pony Commotion will highlight competition on Thursday, August 7 during Week VI.
