Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta --- Canada’s Jill Henselwood won a dramatic jump-off victory in the $50,000 RBC Financial Group Cup today at Spruce Meadows. The RBC Financial Group Cup featured the best riders in the world. The 43 entries were made up of Olympic, World Cup and Pan American Game’s medalists, along with Canada’s 2008 Olympic team members.

Olympic course designer, Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) was given the task setting the 17 jumping obstacles which spanned over 605 m to make up the course for the RBC Financial Group Cup. Only five entries were able to master the course and move on to the jump-off round, including Canada’s Eric Lamaze with two mounts.

Lamaze was the first jump-off competitor with his Olympic mount Hickstead. They rode to an aggressive pace and finished clear in 37.38 seconds. The clear continued Hickstead’s amazing faultless season at Spruce Meadows.

In the end it was Lamaze’s Olympic team mate and Pan American Games champion Jill Henselwood and her gelding Special Ed who were the best on the day. The pair powered over the course and finished 7/10 of a second faster than Lauren Hough (USA). “Lauren Hough and Eric Lamaze were ahead of me and I’ve run with them before. It really is a horse race with us, nose to nose. I was at the gate and they just told me to do everything I could. That is what I did,” said Henselwood after her win.

Henselwood was joined in the top twelve by each of her Olympic team mates as they continue to prepare for Hong Kong.
