Final Four - Spruce Meadows

Calgary, AB --- The final day of the Spruce Meadows “Skyliner” Jr/Amateur Tournament featured seven different ‘Final Four’ events, patterned after the World Equestrian Games final format.

Three qualifying events - with hundreds of athletes from around the world competing – lead up to Final Four Sunday. The final events included four rounds with riders swapping horses each round, with only two minutes to get acquainted prior to competing.

The champions on the day spanned the Americas with flags and anthems from Mexico, the United States, the Dominican Republic and Canada being played to salute the winners.

In the feature event, the 1.40 m Riddell Family Final Four, Richard Neal (USA) overcame a disastrous first round deficit of 21 faults to scrap back to the top of the standings to reach the gold medal podium. On his fourth and final trip around the Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) designed course. He posted a clutch clear round aboard Notories Utopia to claim victory.

The Spruce Meadows Summer Tour resumes Thursday when the professionals return for the Spruce Meadows “Canada One” Tournament.
