Spruce Meadows - Table Set for CN Performance Grand Prix
June 14, 2008
Calgary, AB --- Fifty of show jumping’s biggest stars took to the field today at Spruce Meadows for the ConocoPhillips Cup, the final preparatory event before Sunday’s $100,000 CN Performance Grand Prix.
Course designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) – who will also design the 2008 Olympic tests – served notice that tomorrow’s Olympic team selection trial will be big, technical and demanding. “When you are dealing with the quality of horses and riders that you have at Spruce Meadows you must ask all of the question and then see who has all the answers,” says Palacios.
If today’s result is any indication the ‘Big Guns’ are ready to play and earn their way on to the Olympic Games. 2004 Olympic gold medalist Beezie Madden continued to shine at Spruce Meadows as did other veteran stars including Canadians Mario Deslauriers, Jill Henselwood and Eric Lamaze.
On the day however, no one shone brighter than Mexican Olympic hopefull Enrique Gonzalez who jumped to victory aboard Centinaio 2 for the second year in a row to defend the ConocoPhillips Cup.
