Spruce Meadows - High Performance Sunday
June 13, 2008
Calgary, AB --- The super stars of show jumping have been preparing all week for Sunday’s CN Performance Grand Prix. With $100,000 at stake athletes will be pushing the limits for their chance at glory in the second leg of the $1 million CN Precision Series and possible Olympic team selection.
Canada’s Eric Lamaze will ride his champion stallion Hickstead on Sunday. Lamaze rode Hickstead to victory at the Spruce Meadows “National” winning the CN Reliability Grand Prix. Should he win on Sunday it will be the second time in as many years that Lamaze has won two of the four legs in the CN Precision Series. Last year the Canadian star won the ATCO Power Queen Elizabeth II at the “North American” and the $1 million CN International at the Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament. Currently ranked number four in the world in the FEI Rolex Rankings, Lamaze feels good about his chances Sunday, “I feel good. This is the only competition Hickstead is doing this week. He is very reliable and dependable and I know him so well. We are really going to try,” commented Lamaze.
Should the pair win on Sunday Lamaze will lay claim to the $50,000 bonus given to riders able to win two legs of the CN Precision Series in one season. This is a feat only three riders have managed, Beezie Madden (USA), Lauren Hough (USA) and Eric Lamaze. Proven to excel under pressure Lamaze will join defending champion Madden, along a field of international show jumping stars on the Meadows on the Green Ring Sunday, for a day of incredible show jumping.
