June 6, 2008
Calgary, AB --- The Spruce Meadows International Ring has been dominated by one rider this week at the “National” Tournament. Lauren Hough (USA) had more than luck on her side as she won her third international competition in as many days, taking home first place in the 1.50M ATCO Midstream Winning Round.
Hough rode her gelding Quick Study to victory, mastering the course designed by Guilherme Jorge (BRA). Hough followed the very quick Eric Lamaze (CAN) in the second round. “Eric was very fast, I knew I had to put it all on the line. Quick Study performed beautifully,” said Hough. With another win under her belt Hough gave credit to her support crew. “It really makes you appreciate your team. I am so grateful to my owners and I feel so lucky to have the support I have,” she added.
Closing out the International Ring on Friday was the 1.45M RBC Capital Markets Cup, a course drawn over 550M with 15 jumping efforts. 25 horse/rider combinations attempted the course with eight moving on to the second round. The second round saw three clear rounds, with one very fast time. Azcarraga has been riding Forastero for three years, “He was hurt last year but is back in shape. He is a fighter who loves to jump,” the excited champion exclaimed.
